PENTECOST---BAPTISM BY FIRE
"I
have come to cast fire upon the earth
and what will I, but that it be enkindled."
Luke
12:49 (Douay-Rheims)

Pentecost --Shavuot -- WhitSunday
Old
and New Testament Pentecosts
"Pentecost" means "50", and for Christians
that signifies the 50 days between the Resurrection of Jesus
Christ on Easter Sunday morning (FirstFruits) until the day that
the Holy Ghost appeared as cloven tongues of fire upon the
disciples, and baptized them. This Holy Ghost Baptism was
evidenced by the 120 speaking in tongues. This was the first
manifestation of the Holy Spirit's indwelling given to Peter and
the 120. (One spoke, and then many foreigners heard in their own
language.)
For Christians, Pentecost is a day regarding the indwelling
of the Holy Spirit operating His gifts through us.

In the Jewish Faith, the 50 day interval is from the day after
the Sabbath
( a Sunday) within Passover to the hearing of the voice of God
(Bas Kol)
upon Mt. Sinai in the wilderness.
Exodus 19:10--20;
This meeting with Almighty God came by fire and great phenomenon:
"And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that
there were Thunders and Lightnings,
and a Thick Cloud upon
the mount, and the voice of the Trumpet
exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp
trembled.
And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to MEET WITH
GOD; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
And mount Sinai was altogether on a Smoke,
because the LORD (Jehovah) descended upon it in Fire:
and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the
whole mount quaked greatly.
And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long (Tekiah Gedolah),
and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake and God answered him by
a voice.
And the LORD (Jehovah-Jesus) came down upon mount Sinai, on the
top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the
mount; and Moses went up."
This is the most awesome scene of man meeting with His God. Moses
was given full access to meet with God and to receive the
commandments (oracles) of God (Exodus 20)
The emphasis here is not only upon the Law (the Torah) but also
the emphasis here is the hearing of the Voice
of God and the MEETING WITH GOD Almighty
Himself.
This is a personal encounter
with the God who "answers by FIRE".
1 Kings 18:24.

JOEL: DAY OF THE
LORD....volcanic explosions and war
We come to this same terminology again in JOEL Chapter TWO. Here
is described for us: a trumpet sounding, trembling, darkness,
fire, flame, earth quaking, wonders in the heavens and in the
earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke".
There is a great volcanic eruption depicted for us here before
the DAY OF THE LORD, as well as war.
"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into
blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come".
Joel 2: 31.
THE SIXTH SEAL....Revelation 6:
12-17
And for a third time this terminology is repeated at the opening
of the Sixth Seal of Revelation: "there was a great
earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and
the moon became as blood " (from great volcanic eruptions)
There is a thread here tying all of this together:
The God that answers by fire, meets with man
to give him His Torah ( WORD, Scriptures, Bible ) and His Spirit.
If we fail to regard one or both, the God who answers by fire
comes in Judgement.
Both the Exodus-Pentecost of the Law ( WORD,
Bible ) and the Acts-Pentecost of the Spirit-indwelling
end in the person of Jesus Christ.
"For Christ is the end of the law.( WORD ) " Romans
10:4 ... "In the beginning was the Word .. and the Word was
God " -- John 1
"We know that the law is spiritual" Romans 7:14
The letter of the Law kills ( legalism ) but the Spirit gives
life" -- 2 Corinthians 3: 6
We know that Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. When did
he start with Genesis? Most likely when he was communing with God
for 80 days upon Mt. Sinai ( 40 days twice). So Pentecost is the
birthday of the Scriptures, the beginning of the written word of
God..the oracles of God.
Psalm 12: 6 " The words of the LORD are pure words; as
silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. "
Let us now examine more closely the Giving of the Holy Spirit.
PENTECOST TWO....The Wind and
The Fire
THE
WIND
In Acts Chapter 2 there was also phenomenon and the presence of
God. It was on that day that the Holy Spirit came by wind
and by fire.
The wind represented the Born-Again experience .
"Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth,
and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it
cometh, and whither it goeth; so is everyone that is born of the
Spirit."
John 3: 7, 8
This is the indwelling
of the Holy Spirit in the Believer from the beginning of his walk
with God.
"Can two walk together except they be agreed ? Amos 3:3
Being Born-Again, being indwelt by the Spirit
of Christ, is required and acquired at the
time of our submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
"No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy
Ghost".
1 Corinthians 12:3
FROM
WITH US, TO
IN US
You see, many of us were nominal Christians before we became
Born-anew.
Being raised in America, we knew of Jesus Christ and we attended
Church regularly with our families . The Holy Spirit was WITH
us.
We had head-knowledge.
But when we became Born from above---being convicted of our sins
and repenting of them---our whole lives changed. Religion was no
longer a philosophy or a culture...it was a Person.....the very
Person of Jesus Christ.
We now had a relationship with the Living God, through His Holy
Spirit.
Now--- for the first time--- the Holy Spirit was not only with
us, but IN us. We became
LED of the Holy Spirit, Guided
and directed by His voice
(the kol Ruach Ha Kodesh). We began to WALK
in the Holy Spirit . We began to produce
real fruit in our
lives.....Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, meekness, and temperance. We now do these things in
sincerity and truth and with the right motives.
"for He dwelleth with you, and shall be IN you" John
14:17
Ezekiel 36:27 "And I will put My Spirit within
you, and cause you to walk in My statutes,
and ye shall keep My judgements, and do them."
Because of the Holy Spirit indwelling in us , we now have the
God-relationship within us to help us act righteously. Many times
we want to do what is right, but fail. (Romans 7) That is because
we are not walking in the Spirit. But when we are led by the
Spirit of God, reading and feeding upon the WORD of God and praying
in earnest to God, the Holy Ghost acts like
a candle in our hearts, searching out the hidden things that
hinder us. The Spirit then reveals these things to us and, as we
listen and obey , we are able to do that which we want to
do...act Godly. It is now possible to do what we know to do, and
for the right motives.
We are now a new person, living righteousnessly in Jesus Christ.
Romans 8 ....... 2 Corinthians 5:17 ....... Ephesians 4:24 and
Colossians 3:10.
"We have the mind of Christ (Jesus)" 1 Corinthians 2:16
SPIRIT-BAPTISM
"fire" in
Hebrew
THE
FIRE
The fire in Acts Chapter Two represented the manifestation of the
Spirit
operating in the
Believer (tongues, gifts, signs, wonders and miracles).
Jesus referred to this as being" endued with power from on
high". Luke 24:49
When we were first Born-Again we received the potential
for receiving Jesus' gift of spiritual virtue, or power.
Later, when we are Spirit-Baptized ( evidenced by speaking in
tongues )
we then seek more of the Spirit-filled life.
Being Born-anew is an indwelling; being Spirit-Baptized is the
infilling for the outpouring. We are now filled with the Holy
Spirit for service:
(the ministering of the gifts of Jesus Christ manifested by the
Holy Spirit.... our operating in His ability.
"Without Me ye can do nothing" John 15:5
The Indwelling of the
Holy Spirit takes place each time a Believer finds Jesus Christ
as his personal Lord and Savior (Salvation). And that is only the
beginning. There is still the Baptism of the
Holy Spirit given to Believers, usually by
the laying on of hands. Many "Pentecosts" are happening
every day, as Believers lay hands on fellow believers and pray
for their Baptism in the Holy Spirit, as evidenced by the
speaking in tongues, and a life on fire for God. " I have
come to cast fire upon the earth and what will I but that it be
enkindled" Luke 12:49
"A hundred million miracles
are happening every day."
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/million.html
FOUR EXAMPLES
There
are 4 instances in the Book of Acts that makes it very plain and
clear that water-Baptism and Spirit-Baptism are not the same.
They are two different and very distinct entities. Let's look
more closely in the Book of Acts to see the differing
characteristics.
1.
ACTS 8:5--17.....the Laying on of Hands
First to the whole Jews, then to the half- Jews
The first instance in Acts is when Phillip, the deacon, goes to
Samaria and preaches Jesus Christ to them and many get saved.
Then Peter and John, in Jerusalem, hear that even the Samaritans
(half- Jewish) recieved Jesus as Lord, and the two Apostles go
and visit them. We must remember that up until this time the
church was 100 % Jewish. Now, "church" was beginning to
even include half- Jews. Awesome!
Yet it must be noted from Scripture that as of yet the Holy
Spirit had not fallen on these Samaritans Believers . Acts 8:16.
So while there, Peter and John prayed for the new Believers and
laid hands upon them; and the Samaritan Believers received the
Baptism of the Holy Ghost as evidenced in speaking in tongues.
This was a new revelation, that the church could actually include
others who were not 100% Jewish.
Now, we see from this section concerning Samaria that there are
two very distinct Baptisms...Water-Baptism which they had
previously received, and then Spirit-Baptism, which they were yet
to receive. These two are not the same.
And we also see from this section that the Baptism of the Holy
Spirit could not be purchased with money (filthy lucre). Acts
8:20-23.
It is a Spiritual Gift, prayed for Spiritually.
2. Acts 8:26-39 .....No
Spirit-Baptism
To the
Hamitic
Next, Philip went to the Ethiopian who also became a Believer and
was water Baptized. Here there is no account of anyone laying
hands on the Ethiopian and again no account of Spirit-Baptism,
with the evidence of speaking in tongues. We are not given any
reasons why. We can only deduce that a desire was not
expressed---as many Christians do not seek after this gift
today--- and there is no fellowship of believers shown in this
scenario. Those factors may have a bearing on the matter. For now
we can only surmise.
3. ACTS 10....Falling as the
Latter Rain
To the
Japhetic
Now then , is it necessary to have water-baptism in order to have
Spirit-Baptism?
Well Acts 10 shows us that it is not
necessary.
Acts 10 is so beautiful. Not only have half-Hebrews and Hamitics
received the Lord Jesus as Savior (Acts 8), but now even the
goyem Gentiles (Japhetic) receive Jesus as Lord.
"Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth Him, and worketh
righteousness, is accepted with him.....
He is Lord of all" Acts 10:34,35 and 36.
And not only that, but another amazing thing happens in Acts
10....the Holy Ghost falls upon the Gentiles while Peter was
preaching ! There was no laying on of hands, nor was there any
water Baptism previous. Truly the veil has been torn, and all may
come to Jesus without ritual.
Well then , why did Cornelius get the Baptism of the Spirit right
away and the Ethiopian didn't...nor do a lot of us when we first
believed? Perhaps it is because of what Peter said when he spoke
of fearing God and practicing
righteousness.
Cornelius had quite a reputation for honoring the God of the
Hebrews and for giving alms to the poor. He also had a reputation
in heaven for " praying to God alway" and even fasting.
His prayers were heard and answered before God.
Cornelius' vessel was well prepared for the receiving of the Holy
Spirit Baptism. God is ever mindful of our works and alms giving.
4. ACTS 19:2--6.....to the
church at large
"covet earnestly the best gifts" 1 Corinthians 12:31
And fourthly in Acts 19:2 -- 6, we see the Ephesian Believers who
had only experienced water Baptism, just like the majority in the
church today. When Paul laid hands on them "the Holy Ghost
came on them; and they spake with tongues and prophesied."
Now here, for the first time, the gift of prophecy shows up in
the church whereby one person gives an uttereance in tongues and
another person interprets that message in the common language.
The church members here at Ephesus are working in harmony one
with another, due to the orchestration of the Holy Spirit.
"desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may
prophesy" 1 Corinth. 14:1
(to prophesy: give a message from God in tongues,
that is interpreted for the edification of the Body of Christ)
PropheCy ("see") is the study of the prophets and the
coming of Messiah.
PropheSy ("sigh") is a direct revelation from God given
to the Believer who, speaking in tongues, gives out the message
to the assembled. Then another Believer, by the power of the Holy
Ghost, tells the revelation to all in the common language. A
testimony or word from God must be witnessed by two persons. Two
is the number of witness.
This operation is performed by two people since in the mouth of
two witnesses is truth discerned.
IMMERSION
As our commitment to Jesus Christ increases through our nurturing
of this relationship in earnest prayer, the fullness of the Holy
Ghost increases in us. First we get our ankles wet in this new
Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Then our feet, legs, chest and all
that we are become submerged and filled as we pursue and receive
more and more of the Spirit-Life.
Ezekiel
47:1- 5
demonstrates clearly the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It shows how
it is a gradual growth and gradual submergence into the Spirit
-filled life. We receive as much as we pursue. Ardor, devotion,
persistence, perseverence and endurance of daily dying to self
and daily following the Lord Jesus Christ reaps great spiritual
benefits for us.
We have now gone from head-knowledge to heart-knowledge. Our love
for Jesus Christ knows no end. We now will go to any lengths to
please and obey our Lord, even at the cost of comfort and ease,
convenience and pleasure. Not that we seek out discomfort, but
rather when things do not go our way, we work through the
situation with the help of the Holy Spirit.
SOMETHING'S MISSING
The church today has a form of Godliness but denies the power
thereof"
2 Timothy 3:5. The church at large denies the power because it is
not ardently and relentlessly seeking after the power from on
high of the Holy Ghost ----the Spirit Baptism and the operation
of the gifts in every believer.
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/pow.html
While it is true that many newer "revivals" are an
abuse of the Holy Ghost operations, there remains no relentless
pursuing of the genuine
Holy Ghost Baptism and the operation of the gifts ministering
within the true Body of Christ.
It is so sad that today the emphasis is on gold dust, falling on
the floor and bragging about being "drunk in the
spirit" and laughing uncontrollably. These trite spectacles
must bring sorrow to the heart of God. Surely none of that is
found in the Scripture. Some sheep are either being deceived or
self-deceived.
Would that they would go to the Father as in Luke 11 and ask for the geniune
experience.
If the experience doesn't line up with Acts, it's not the genuine
operation. It is of the flesh. Unfortunately, Christians can
remain as carnal as they want to. True genuine spirituality is
not forced upon anyone.
Only the still small voice can convict and mature us.
ACTS: THIRD MILLENNIUM
Very soon the Economic System of this world will have wrapped
it's noose tightly about the masses. Global socialism---with no
way out (perplexity)----will force people to look to the System
for medical care, retirement funds, and all manner of provisions.
When we trust in the System solely
for our provisions
(taking the 666 mark of the
Beast )
that is idolatry. We are to trust in the Lord at all times.
The Book of Daniel (Chapter 11) has told us that those that do
know their God will be strong and do exploits. What exploits ??
Heal the sick (James 5), and all the exploits recounted for us in
2
Kings as
done by Elisha.
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/sparo.html
The source of power for exploits is our abiding relationship with
Jesus, nurtured by the Holy Spirit.
SEALED
SERVANTS..." HINENI "
" HERE AM I......SEND ME !!!! "
For the day is coming when the 144,000 (Rev. 7) will rise up with
the double portion of
the Spirit baptism. Then there will be global revival bringing in
a multitude that no man can number (Rev. 7: 9)
THIS IS THAT of which Joel spoke about when he said,"
"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My
Spirit upon all flesh
(every tribe and nation);
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy
(operate in the Holy Spirit of Jesus and speak in tongues)
Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see
visions.
And also upon the servants and the handmaids in those days will I
pour out My Spirit
"
( possible meaning : the Hamitics in great numbers will receive
the Spirit-Baptism ? Remember how the Ehtiopian received only
water-Baptism ? Now, during the Great Tribulation it is most
likely that the Hamitics will receive, in great numbers, the
Spirit-Baptism.
There is a time and purpose for everything under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 3: 1)
"And it shall come to pass, that
WHOSOEVER shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered:
for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the
LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall
call." JOEL 2:28, 29 + 32....also Acts 2:16---21
"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the
Lord.
Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the
earth,
and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and
latter rain."
"Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts:
for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh." James 5:7, 8
PREPARING FOR PERSECUTION
"with their lives they said :'HINENI' "...here am I
The Book of Acts is THE
manual for living the Holy Ghost life. It shows how the Holy
Spirit came with great manifestations (Chapter 2). But the Holy
Ghost was not in the wind nor in the fire. He was and always will
be in the still small voice (discerned in our consciences) just
as it was so in Elijah's day.
1 Kings 19: 11, 12
Acts Chapter 3 shows the
signs and wonders and miracles that prove the existence of God
among men. These miracles are not to be idolized in themselves,
but rather miracles should point to the Living God, Jesus. That
is why Peter makes it very plain in Acts 3:12-16 that this
healing of the lame man was not done because of any specialness
on the part of Peter or John, but this work was an act of
Lovingkindness performed soley by the Living God, with the
Apostles acting merely as branches from the Vine.
In Acts Chapters 4 and 5 Peter
and John face persecution. They were arrested and jailed, and put
before the Council and tried. At the first, they were released.
On the Second Arrest they were put in a locked and guarded cell.
Acts 5:23
"Yea, and all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall
suffer persecution"
2 Timothy 3:12
And because we learn how to deal with persecution in stages, God
acted in their behalf most miraculously, at the first. An angel
came by night and opened the prison doors for their escape Acts
5:19. How many people do we know walk out of locked and guarded
prison cells ? Acts 5:18-23
BOLDLY GOING WHERE ONE HAS GONE
BEFORE
And even more miraculously, how many people do we know take a
stand for Christ and proclaim the Gospel anyway,
---dispelling fear with courage---knowing they will suffer
consequences? Not too many.
But that's exactly what Peter and John did. They boldly preached
in Jesus' name saying,
"We
ought to obey God rather than men" Acts 5:29
For this they were beaten and eventually let go.
Yes, persecution follows deep commitment. Christians are like
Salmon, swimming upstream in a politically correct world,
disregarding numbers and popularity.
"We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are
perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast
down, but not destroyed".
2 Corinthians 4:8, 9
In all these tribulations, the Apostles rejoiced that they were
counted worthy to suffer for the cause of Christ (Acts 5:41) and to
share in the cup of the fellowship of His sufferings.(Philippines
3:10) Only the Indwelling of the Holy Ghost can bring us to that
point.
BAPTISM BY FIRE ......Luke 3:16
we are :"consumed by either fire or FIRE" (TS Eliot)
(dying with either regret ..... or for the Love of God)
The Baptism of the
Holy Ghost brings not only Indwelling, gifts, manifestations and
miracles. But the Baptism of FIRE and of the Holy Ghost brings
boldness, courage and ZEAL...the zeal necessary to undergo
persecution and eventually martyrdom.
"When Christ (Jesus) calls a man, He bids him come and
die",
Dietrich Bonhoffer. (WW 2 martyr)

A PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR...1 John
4: 18
We do not fear the future, for the grace-of-the-moment will be
there at exactly the time we need it, and not before. That is
what Mr. Ten Boom tried to teach Corrie, when Corrie wondered
about the ability to respond to certain occasions. Mr. Ten Boom
told her that God's overcoming grace comes at the time of
fulfillment...sort of like buying a train ticket. It is purchased
at the time
it is needed. (From The Hiding Place www.soon.org.uk/true_stories/holocaust.htm
).
"And they overcame him (Beast and his 666 System)
by the Blood of the Lamb,
and by the word of their testimony;
and they loved not their lives unto the death". Revelation
12:11.......
"Therefore rejoice" (12:12)
"And they departed from the presence of the council,
rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His
name" Rev. 5:41
"I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ:
for it is the power of God unto salvation." 1 Romans 16.
May we all seek this Baptism by Fire....the infilling of the Holy
Spirit of Jesus for manifestations and courage.

**********************************************************
"Actually, one of the greatest assets God has provided for
the believer in seeking God's plan for his life is the Baptism of
the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that when you pray in an unknown
tongue, your SPIRIT prays
(1 Corinthians 14:14).
Your spirit is actively communicating with God when you pray in
other tongues. This is a great enablement in prayer because it is
through your spirit that God gives you guidance.
I've found that praying in tongues is one of the best ways to get
my body quiet and my mind in neutral so I can hear what the Holy
Spirit is saying. " Kenneth Hagin then goes on to say that
if we get still enough on the inside, and if we meditate on God's
Word and pray in the Spirit long enough, we'll be able to
differentiate between what is our voice-within and what is the
still small voice of the Holy Ghost. Then true guidance from the
Lord rises up and we are enabled with His Spirit to obey.

TIPS :
One Tablespoon of dry yeast (1 packet ) equals 1 yeast cake
...for substitute
It is more economical to use yeast from b. m. jar (yeast is same
whether for b.m. or by scratch)
I use water instead of milk (softer) and honey instead of sugar
Glass bowls are preferred for mixing.
If using plastic bowls, be sure water temperature is 115 degrees
for yeast.
I bake my breads at 350 for about 40--45 minutes.
